Mission
To maintain and enhance Nineteenth Street Baptist Church through caring acts of stewardship reflective of our love for God, one another, our community, country and world.
The Buildings and Blessings Campaign seeks to raise $650,000 for the following projects:
Church Façade Repair/Cleaning $200,000
Jones Handy House Renovation 100,000
Roof Replacement 300,000
Capital Reserve Fund 50,000
______
Total $650,000
Church Façade Repair and Cleaning
The cement of the church façade is crumbling, and large areas of the façade are blackened and discolored. If not repaired, the damage will lead to more serious structural problems. A deteriorating dirty facade gives a negative first impression of our church. The façade repair and cleaning is our highest priority project and will begin as soon as funds are raised for the down payment.
Jones Handy House Renovation
Through the generous gift of Gladys Jones Handy, the church owns this valuable property at 1604 Crittenden Street NW. Its current dilapidated physical condition prevents any use now. The campaign seeks to raise funds for mold removal, window replacement, new HVAC, plumbing and other renovations. Once restored to good condition, the Trustee Board will determine the best future use for this church asset.
Roof Replacement
The church roof is over 20 years old. Last year roof leaks resulted in the collapse of part of the sanctuary ceiling. Although repaired, the roof work is only guaranteed for two years. We must plan to replace the roof before or during 2013.
Capital Reserve Fund
At one time, our tithes and offerings exceeded our operational budgets, thus allowing us to build up and maintain a reserve fund for capital and unbudgeted expenses. However, over the years the reserve has been exhausted, as annual tithes and offerings barely meet our budgeted needs. To ensure we have the resources to meet our future capital needs, proceeds from the campaign will establish a Capital Reserve Fund.
Even though the campaign lasts through June 2013, the façade repair and Jones Handy House renovations will be initiated as soon as funds are available to avoid further deterioration and higher costs to repair.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why were these projects selected for the Buildings and Blessings Capital
Campaign?
A: The Board of Trustees of Nineteenth Street is responsible for the real and personal properties of the church. They have identified many capital needs and also received many suggestions about what projects should be undertaken at this time. The projects selected for this campaign are the most pressing projects.
Q: Why doesn’t the church just borrow the money?
A: We have decided to conduct a capital campaign rather than to seek a commercial loan to pay for the repairs. The amount of principal and interest payments that we would incur on the loan would add to our operational budget, which already is constrained. In the long term, the capital campaign will cost the church less money for the repairs.
Q: Will capital campaign contributions count separately from our tithes and
offerings?
A: Yes, contributions to the capital campaign will be counted separately. Your church annual statement will reflect campaign contributions and all other donations.
Q: How can I make my contributions?
A: Campaign contributions can be made in several ways. Checks should be payable to Nineteenth Street Baptist Church and identified as a “BBCC” contribution. The church will be able to accept PayPal and credit card payments.
